As you could guess the new Volkswagen Polo GTI is going to be a little more pricey than your standard Polo, the flagship model has been priced at £18,850 with customer deliveries commencing in March. Whilst it may seem expensive it is pretty competitively priced when compared to it’s competitors; it is cheaper than the Peugeot 208 GTI and the RenaultSport Clio but the cheapest of these rivals is the Ford Fiesta St which is £1,600 less that the VW Polo GTI.
Every new Polo GTI gets the 189bhp 1.8-litre turbocharged engine, you then get the choice of a seven speed DSG gearbox or a six speed manual gearbox, the entry level model comes with the manual option and is three-door. For a five-door model you need to spend £630 more, and for the 7 speed DSG version it costs £1,245 extra with the range topper costing £20,725. The GTI can accelerate faster than the Ford and the Peugeot, able to do 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds, it’s top speed is 146mph. The roads are overrun with used Ford Fiestas in Croydon so I’m always pleased to hear about rivals.
